Whitefish Mountain Resort in northwestern Montana was formerly called Big Mountain Ski Resort. The name change came about in 2007, and this resort is known as one of the world's best destination ski resort. It is no surprise that some refer to Whitefish Mountain Resort as the "last best thing." This resort has not deviated completely from some of the key features that are synonymous with the Big Mountain Montana local ski hill. The ski resort has stayed true to its delightfully laid-back atmosphere, where showmanship is lacking and skiing is simply about having a good time with family or friends. The resort has 3,000 acres (1,214 hectares) of skiable terrain, with several parks that cater to different skiing needs. Whitefish Mountain Resort offers something for everyone at every level, be it beginners, intermediates, or advanced skiers or boarders.

There are several excellent park terrains that offer fun and excitement. The Depot Park offers an excellent terrain for beginners, as well as smaller jumps and jibs. Jumps, rails, and boxes are features of this park. Central Avenue Park is a medium-sized park, showcasing jumps and rail lines with plenty of creative features. Armory Park is a terrain for expert park riders who take advantage of big jumps and a combination of rail features. Magic Park is situated in the beginner learning area, just outside the Base Lodge. It has features ideal for small children, or any newbie skier or snowboarder. Goat Haunt Ski/Snowboard Cross boast terrain features such as banked turns, small jumps, and rollers.

Whitefish Mountain Resort is not all about winter excitement. They offer summer fun as well. Hikers and bikers can enjoy nature on trails that accommodate mountain biking and hiking. Montana's longest zip line tour soars high above ski slopes, over ravines, and through the trees. Alpine Slide, a one-third mile sled ride, is fun for the young and old alike. Spider Monkey Mountain is a kid's jungle, which challenges them to find their own way through a maze tower. Scenic mountain lifts are also available with views of Whitefish Lake, the Flathead Valley and Glacier National Park. Whitefish Mountain Resort is both a summer and winter laid back paradise.
