191 Map of the Course of the Lower Mississippi River
This map was published in George Henry Collott's "Journey in North America..." which was undertaken in 1796. His maps are some of the earliest maps of the Mississippi River Valley. The maps was engraved in 1805 and published in 1826. It was printed in both English and French.
This early English map contains detailed notes on landscape in the river valley. New Madrid is noted in all caps, on a par with Natchez, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans. Vicksburg is noted as "Nogales."
